Read the following sentences: "They came in order one by one.", "They repeated it again and again", "He is my cousin brother.", "Shall we proceed further?", "I will revert back soon.". You see that each of these sentences has the repetition of an idea. We can simply say: "They came in order., "They repeated it", "He is my cousin brother.", "Shall we proceed ?", "I will revert soon.
Tautology is a phrase or a sentence that says the same thing twice. It is needless repetition of an idea. Sometimes, tautology can be used in literature to emphasize an idea. But it is a faulty style of writing, as it adds unnecessary words.
