About GRE (General Test)

GRE General Test is one of the most popular graduate admission tests for candidates looking to pursue MS Studies or Graduate studies abroad. Nearly every university in the USA and UK accept GRE score. GRE score is accepted for many graduate and doctoral business programs in India as well. 

Some graduate programs require that applicants take GRE Subject Test.  This assesses candidates' technical knowledge of specific subject. The test is conducted for four disciplines: Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics and Psychology.

GRE Test is created and administered by the Educational Testing Service (ETS).

Eligibility Criterion 

Candidates are expected to possess a graduate degree in any discipline from a recognized university. There is no age limit set for candidates wanting to appear for their GRE test.

Structure of Test 

Analytical writing:       2 essays in 60 minutes

Verbal reasoning:      40 questions in 60 minutes

Quantitative reason:  40 questions in 70 minutes

The GRE score range can be understood with a section-wise distribution system:

Analytical Writing score scale:               0–6

Verbal Reasoning score scale:             130–170 

Quantitative Reasoning score scale:    130–170

GRE Total Score: on a 260–340 score scale

There is no negative marking in GRE.

Good Score 

320+ is considered a good score in GRE. Good GRE scores are just one of the factors that count. The other factors: GPA, undergraduate coursework, professional and hands-on experience, letters of recommendation, statement of purpose etc.

What is the duration of GRE test?

It is about 3 hours and 45 minutes.

When can I take a GRE test?

There are two types of tests: Computer-based and Paper-based. Computer-based tests are conducted multiple times a year, so you can take it anytime depending on the availability of the slot. Paper-based tests are conducted only three times a year.

What is the exam fee for GRE?

The registration fee for GRE General Test is $213 in India. The fee for GRE Subject Test is $150 in India.

Can I change the date of my GRE exam?

Yes. you can change the date of your GRE Test at least 4 days prior to the test date on the payment of a fee of $50.

How often can I take GRE exam in a year?

You can take GRE exam five times in 12 months. The minimum gap between two attempts is 21 days.

Is the use of a calculator allowed in GRE exam?
