Some candidates, despite having talent, under-perform because of the lack of constant monitoring of teachers, as some need proper guidance.
SAT is not tough, but it is surely tricky. It tests a candidate's thinking ability, accuracy, and speed. One needs to cope with all the areas smartly. Unless one gets proper training and practice, one always misses too many things and fails to perform up to one's potential.
